東京渋谷で開催されていた、伝説のクライミング・フィルム「EL CAPITAN」の上映や写真展示を行なう「THE BIG WALL」展（The North Face × Papersky）が、8月27日より福岡市・The North Faceストア福岡にて引き続き開催されます。1960年代後半から現代まで、クライマーの熱きスピリットの応えるべく、彼らとともに最高の製品を開発してきたTHE NORTH FACE。そして「なぜヨセミテはアーティストを魅了するのか」をテーマに、アメリカ・カリフォルニア州にあるヨセミテ国立公園を特集した PAPERSKY（no.32）。今回の展示では貴重な映画を実際に見ることができるほか、クライミングカルチャーの変遷を美しいビジュアルとともに伝えます …»
伝説のクライミング・フィルム『エル・キャピタン』
フリークライミングの世界で、ヨセミテが「聖地」と呼ばれるほどの扱いを受けているのは、世界最大の垂直な花崗岩の一枚岩「エルキャピタン」が存在するからだろう。古くは19世紀末から近代的登攀が試みられてきたこの地は、1960年代にはイヴォン・シュイナードやロイヤル・ロビンスといった先鋭的クライマーたちの手によってクライミングの世界最先端の地となった。ビートやヒッピーといったカウンターカルチャーがアメリカ西海岸を中心として爆発的に開花した時代、社会からドロップアウトして生活のすべてを「壁に登ること」だけに費やす熱狂的クライマーたちがヨセミテに出現しはじめ、日々ひたすら登攀に挑む彼らはクライミング・バム（浮浪者の意）と呼ばれた。
